Concept
ji is a concept developed by Geneviève Granger.
"ji" is a Chinese word meaning "crisis", "risk", as well as "opportunity".
A crisis has both positive and negative aspects. On one side, it destroys old structures we used to rely on and the feeling of security they gave us, on the other side, it gives us a challenge as well as opportunities to explore new things and widen our horizon.
My current situation has arisen from a period of stagnation in my life and in the search of new opportunities. I decided a few years ago to take a veer in my life and to start a study in environmental sciences. In order to sustain financially my studies, I work as a freelance technical translator.
With industrialisation, growing living standards and a growing population, humanity has put a considerable burden on our environment. Many areas on the planet that sustain our life are threatened if not already overexploited to unproductivity. We could stick to our old habits and mentalities because they simply offer us the confort of the already established structures. But we could also be more ambitious and explore new technologies, points of view and possibilities in order to find the way out of the crisis while pursuing human development of which a healthy environment is an intrinsic part.
Take the challenge with me.
